KEATING TECHNOLOGIES ACHIEVES $1 BILLION IN TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES TO CANADA

Branch Outsourcing Firm Provides Market Expertise to Manufacturers and In-Country Support to Canadian Customers

MARKHAM, Ont. August 30, 2000 -- Keating Technologies today announced that since it first began operations in 1987, the Company has brought more than $1 billion in technology products and services to Canadian customers on behalf of clients such as 3Com, Creative Labs, Gateway Business, Palm, Quarterdeck, USRobotics, and Xircom among others.

“An integral part in achieving this milestone has been our Total Market Management™ philosophy,” states Larry Keating, President and Chief Executive Officer.  “It’s not enough to just deliver products into the Canadian territory.  You need to be in-country to support the channel and their customers with programs unique to the Canadian market, and to be there to deliver Canadian service and support”.

Since its inception, Keating Technologies has been providing sales, marketing, and customer support services for a variety of U.S. based manufacturers.

Maureen Mottonen, IDC Canada’s Vice President, Hardware Research, states “Keating Technologies has built a leadership position in the Canadian IT industry by being innovators in providing branch outsourcing services.  Keating extends the traditional manufacturer’s representative role to include a variety of marketing services, in addition to sales support. The company provides a unique service to both the U.S. manufacturer targeting the Canadian market, and to Canadian resellers and consumers.”

The Canadian customer benefits from Keating’s services such as in-country availability of Evaluation, Demonstration, and Employee Purchase Programs, through to bilingual support and 24-48 hour turnaround of warranty replacement units.  Marketing programs and promotions are also tailored to, and benefit the Canadian customer, including expediting of in-country rebate fulfillment.    On behalf of its clients, Keating currently manages more than 200,000 customer service calls, 80,000 service shipments, and more than $6.5 million in marketing budgets on an annual basis.

Manufacturers are able to take advantage of a number of opportunities from Keating’s Canadian presence. “Clients come to us for a number of reasons,” states Julia Carrescia, Vice President, Business Development. “For some, Keating is a cost-effective alternative to opening up a Canadian branch office.  For others, it’s a speed-to-market solution or it’s an immediate access to expertise in the Canadian market.  We’ve had clients that use Keating to ramp up the territory until it makes fiscal sense to open their own office, and have also had clients that use Keating to augment their own in-country resources.    To our long term clients, we remain the most effective and efficient solution to their Canadian business needs”.

Keating currently represents Apollo (a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard), Gateway Business, Norton-Lambert, Princeton Graphic Systems, Visioneer,  Xircom, and Zebra Technologies and also provides Customer Service and Support on behalf of 3Com and Palm.
