Fluke Networks Announces the New MicroScanner™ PoE – The First Technician’s Tool to Cut Through the Costly Confusion of New and Emerging PoE Standards

New Tool Allows Technicians to Ensure Sufficient Power is Available for PoE Devices.

Everett, Wash., March 18, 2019 – Today, Fluke Networks unveiled the MicroScanner PoE to speed the installation and troubleshooting of Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices including those supporting the new high power 802.3bt standard, which was ratified in September of 2018.  The tester, which can verify and troubleshoot Ethernet cabling, displays a simple indication of the class of power available as reported by the switch in accordance with the Ethernet Alliance designations.  This information indicates if sufficient power is available for the device in question. With an MSRP of $725 US, the product is priced within reach of every technician.

PoE provides substantial cost, efficiency and flexibility benefits, sparking an explosion of powered devices such as cameras, access points, and displays, along with switches to support them.  Unfortunately, the term “PoE” is not defined by any standard and a wide variety of standardized and somewhat-standardized implementations are available. Even more confusing, multiple standards, multiple power levels, a variety of non-standardized names such as “PoE+”, “PoE++”, and other designators are used. The result is that it’s difficult even for experts to know what devices will work together.

The Ethernet Alliance launched a certification program to end this confusion. Power levels and requirements are designated by a number from zero to eight indicating the amount (or “class”) of power sourced or required. Technicians need to simply ensure that the class number of the source is equal to or greater than the class of the powered device. When connected to a PoE switch, the MicroScanner PoE will display the maximum power class indicated by the switch, making it easy for the tech to know if the switch and device are compatible.

The MicroScanner PoE also provides a complete set of tools for the technician installing PoE and non-PoE devices. Cable wiremapping, a built-in toner, and distance-to-fault indicators can track down cabling problems quickly. When connected to a live switch port, the unit displays the speed of the port up to 10 Gbps, especially useful for troubleshooting slow access points. Cable identifiers can be used to track which cable goes where.

“Ensuring quality installations of a PoE network is a three-step process,” according to Harley Lang, RCDD, Director of Marketing for Fluke Networks. “First, designers should use EA PoE certification to ensure their selected equipment will work together. Second, the cabling installation should be certified to meet not only the category cabling requirements, but also the resistance measurements that are critical to PoE. Third, techs should be outfitted with tools such as the MicroScanner PoE so they can ensure they’re properly connected to devices which can supply the necessary power.”

Availability: The Fluke Networks MicroScanner PoE is available for purchase from resellers worldwide starting at $725.

Fluke Networks New MPO Inspection Camera Offers Fastest View from Complete Endface to Individual Fiber

Breakthroughs in efficiency and usability include multiple camera design, gesture-based UI and rugged ergonomics.

Everett, Wash., March 5, 2019 – Today, Fluke Networks unveiled the FI-3000 FiberInspector™ Pro, the industry’s most efficient Multi-Fiber Push On (MPO) endface inspection camera. MPO technology allow simultaneous connection of up to 32 fibers transmitting hundreds of gigabits of information, but are susceptible to the number one cause of fiber failure: contamination. Technicians using the FI-3000 can view the fiber endface instantly using the Live View feature and then use the gesture-based interface to zoom in on individual fibers or perform a pass/fail test in seconds.

“The growth of higher density networks in data centers and fiber-to the home, office, or antenna (FTTx) is driving widespread adoption of MPO technology,”, according to Mike Hughes, VP of Product Management at US Conec, a global leader in the development and supply of high-density optical interconnects, and inventor of the MTP® high performance MPO connector.  “A speck of dust that’s invisible to the human eye can cause intermittent errors or even complete failure on a fiber optic connection.  That’s why it’s essential that every fiber interconnect – even on cables straight from the factory – be inspected before it’s connected.”

“The FiberInspector Pro is the most efficient tool we’ve evaluated for inspection of MPO connectors,” stated Ed Wilson, Senior Operations manager of Curran IT, a leading independent engineering, IT and facilities services business.  The FI-3000 FiberInspector Pro offers an extensive feature set that makes testing MPO trunks easy and efficient.  The multiple camera design with autofocus provides a Live View of the entire endface on a smart phone or Versiv instantly.  Touching “Test” provides an automated PASS/FAIL result compliant with IEC 61300-3-35 in seconds– for any one- and two- row configurations or 8, 10, 12, or 16 fibers.

“While the FI-3000 offers breakthroughs in speed, documentation, and ergonomics, our beta users tell us their favorite feature of the product is the Live View user interface,” stated Harley Lang, RCDD, Director of Field Marketing for Fluke Networks. “This allows them to see the endface of the connector as soon as it’s plugged in and then touch any fiber to zoom in on it. After certifying, they can switch from a summary view of pass/fail results to an image of each individual fiber with defects highlighted and use simple gestures to pan across the entire connector. This view gives them complete confidence that the MPO is ready to connect.”

The FI-3000 features unique ergonomics that support easy inspection of panels or cables, with controls on the back which make it easy to operate with one hand. The built-in PortBright™ illumination makes it easy to find the right port in dark or crowded patch panels. LED’s indicate Pass or Fail conditions, and the handy holster not only keeps the FI-3000 at hand, but also includes room fiber cleaning supplies.

At launch, the tester works with iOS or Android smart devices through the FI-IN App. The app allows users to store results, or even share them with others as an image or a PDF report. Later this year, the FI-3000 will work with the Versiv™ Cabling Certification System. That will allow Versiv users to generate inspection reports using LinkWare PC or LinkWare Live – just like they do today for copper, fiber loss, and OTDR – and integrate them into a single, complete project report. With over 40,000 users and 17 million results uploaded to the cloud, LinkWare is the industry’s leading cable test reporting solution. All the tests from a single project – copper, fiber loss, OTDR and fiber inspection – will be able to be combined into a single report.

Availability: The Fluke Networks FI-3000 FiberInspector Pro is available for purchase from resellers worldwide starting at $5,995 US MSRP and is also available for rent from select suppliers.

IOGEAR To Debut The Ultra-Fast 60GHz Wireless 4K UltraHD Video Extender AT CES 2019

Send Uncompressed 4K UHD Audio and Video from an HDMI Source Up to 50 Feet

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Jan. 7, 2019 – IOGEAR, a manufacturer of innovative, high-performance connectivity products for consumers and organizations of varying sizes, announces its new the Ultra-Fast 60GHz Wireless 4K UltraHD Video Extender (GW4K30GH60) which sends uncompressed audio and video at near-zero latency is ideal for wireless streaming and gaming over short ranges.

The Ultra-Fast Wireless Extender, which was named a CES 2019 Innovations Award Honoree, makes it possible and now affordable to easily send 4K UltraHD (3840 x 2160) and high-quality lossless audio without cables. Send content from an HDMI source to a 4K UHD HDMI TV without the added expense and clutter of running cables between source equipment and the display up to 50 feet. The Extender eliminates the need for HDMI cables in the same room and is ideal for use anywhere that cable-runs are impractical or inconvenient giving users the flexibility to place their source and display equipment wherever is most convenient in a larger room.

With near-zero latency, the GW4K30GH60 supports advanced wireless technology that is fast enough to support today’s hottest gaming and streaming services. In addition to high quality video, the Extender supports the highest standards of audio performance through Dolby® TrueHD, DTS-HD® Master Audio and LPCM digital audio streaming and up to 7.1 surround sound channels with HBR lossless audio.

Unlike other wireless AV solutions that utilize the increasingly crowded 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency bands, the Ultra-Fast 4K Wireless Extender transmits uncompressed high-definition AV over the 60GHz frequency band minimizing potential interference from household devices. The Extender’s directional antennas utilize beamforming technology which sends a directed signal between the transmitter and receiver eliminating interference from nearby devices ensuring the highest performance even in congested wireless settings.

Consumers who utilize a high-speed router or whole home Wi-Fi system to distribute their high-quality audio and video to a TV often see signal loss, drops and video buffering as high-quality audio and video demands high bandwidth and can compete with other Wi-Fi devices for this bandwidth. The Wireless Extender is a dedicated, closed wireless system exclusively for AV. It does not require connection to an existing home Wi-Fi system and therefore does not consume bandwidth needed for the home’s other wireless devices. The Wi-Fi bandwidth coming from a dedicated router or whole-home Wi-Fi system is now available for Internet data and small-screen streaming connectivity throughout the home.

Designed to blend in, not detract from the surrounding décor in the home or office, the compact transmitter and receiver are embedded in a modern, subdued, black aluminum housing and require just a small footprint to connect directly to the source and display respectively. The GW4K30GH60 comes with all the hardware needed for a quick setup of a game station, laptop or other source.

The Ultra-Fast Wireless 4K UHD Video Extender, GW4K30GH60, carries a limited one-year warranty and will be available beginning Q1 2019 at an MSRP of $249.95. Visit www.iogear.com and follow the company on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Fluke Networks Releases New Versiv™ Adapters to Support Certification of Modular Plug Terminated Links

MPTL Connection Standard Designed to Support Internet-of-Things, Intelligent Building Design

Everett, Wash., April 16, 2018 – Fluke Networks introduced three new adapters for the Versiv DSX CableAnalyzer Series giving installers the ability to certify Modular Plug Terminated Link (MPTL) cabling installations to the draft ANSI-TIA568.2-D standard. The new adapters support Category 5e, 6, and 6A performance levels and are paired with the DSX Permanent Link adapter (included with all DSX CableAnalyzer models) to perform MPTL certification. The new adapters are compatible with all DSX models.

The MPTL was created for scenarios where a typical four-connector channel is unnecessary for connecting cabling to networked devices – such as those that reside in a ceiling space where it is impractical to install a faceplate and connect via equipment cords. Instead, there is just a single run from the patch panel in the telecommunications room or from a zone box to a termination at the far end with a plug directly connected into the device, eliminating the work area outlet and equipment cord.

“With the proliferation of IoT, more devices than ever are communicating and receiving power via the network cabling infrastructure,” said Bob Allan, Siemon’s Global Business Development Manager for Intelligent Buildings. “Rather than connecting to the network via outlets and equipment cords, many of these devices can be rapidly and more efficiently connected using an MPTL configuration. Directly connecting devices to the network can improve security by eliminating equipment cords that can be easily disconnected.”

Siemon, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of high quality, high performance IT infrastructure solutions recently announced its new Z-PLUG™ Category 6A Field Terminated Plug for quick, reliable high-performance plug terminations that enable custom-length MPTL connections to a variety of IP-based and PoE-enabled devices deployed in today’s intelligent buildings.
